Strengthening its commitment to grassroots economic empowerment, the City Government of Tacurong, through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), held a ceremonial awarding of a ₱2.9-million livelihood check from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) XII on January 12, 2026.

The ₱2.9-million grant is set to benefit 112 residents, providing them with essential starter kits designed to enhance their current sources of income and foster sustainable entrepreneurship.
The event was graced by City Mayor Lina O. Montilla, PhD, Vice Mayor Ralen Tabusares-Bernardo, and Councilor Geraldine C. Collado, Chairperson of the Committee on Labor and Employment, alongside other members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
DOLE Sultan Kudarat Field Office Head Engr. Louie M. Esparagoza, provided an overview of the program, emphasizing that the selection process prioritized the most vulnerable sectors. The beneficiaries include Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs), self-employed individuals with insufficient income, women, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens, and parents or guardians of child laborers.
This significant milestone was made possible through a proposal submitted by City Mayor Lina O. Montilla, with the support of Sangguniang Panlungsod resolution authorizing her to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with DOLE.
In her message of gratitude, Mayor Montilla described the assistance as more than just a financial grant. “We are deeply grateful to the DOLE Regional Office and the DOLE Sultan Kudarat Field Office for their unwavering support,” she stated. “Consider this a post-Christmas gift for our community, especially for the informal sectors who work tirelessly every day. As long as it is for the sake of the Tacurongnons, our partnership with DOLE will remain steadfast.”
Later in the day, DOLE Regional Director Raymond Fel F. Sajor arrived in Tacurong to officially turn over the check to Mayor Montilla and City Treasurer Romulo P. Paclibar, PhD. His presence underscored the high level of cooperation between the national agency and the local government of Tacurong.

Before the awards were conferred, PESO Tacurong conducted a thorough evaluation using established criteria to assess the performance, documentation, and service delivery of all barangay PESO units. Leading this year’s recognitions, Ms. Mary Ann V.
