The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tacurong held a committee meeting on May 14, 2026, to deliberate on a proposed ordinance providing financial assistance to repatriated distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who are bona fide residents of the city. The proposed measure aims to extend support to OFWs who have encountered difficult and vulnerable situations abroad, including cases of abuse, illness, and other distressing circumstances, as they return home and rebuild their lives.
Authored by Hon. Geraldine L. Collado, Chairperson of the Committee on Labor and Employment, the proposed ordinance was formally presented during a regular session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tacurong, attended by members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, PESO Manager Allan S. Freno, officials and representatives of city government offices, and Ms. Marlyn Jamero, OIC Regional Director of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
Once enacted , the ordinance is expected to provide promt financial assistance to repatriated distressed OFWs , complementing existing national programs while addressing urgent needs at the local level.
This initiative reflects the City Government of Tacurongโ€™s continued commitment to promoting the welfare, protection, and reintegration of OFWs and their families, recognizing their significant contributions to the cityโ€™s social and economic development.
The Public Employment Service Office remains at the forefront of this effort, serving as a key link in assisting OFWs and their families through reintegration programs, employment facilitation, and access to essential support services. Further updates will be provided as the ordinance progresses through the legislative process.
