As this year’s new graduates prepare themselves for the rigorous job-hunting search, the Sangguniang Panlungsod of the city government of Tacurong tries to ease their burden by giving jobseekers wider access to employment opportunities. The intervention came in the form of the ‘Digital Recruitment Promotion Ordinance’ that was approved by the Sanggunian during its regular session on June 5, 2024. This landmark legislation on digital recruitment requires business establishments employing more than ten workers to register and post their job vacancies to PESO Jobs PH, the online job portal management system being run by the city government, through the Public Employment Service Office. The ordinance also requires the registered companies to submit their job placement to the PESO. Refusal on the part of the businesses to register to the portal will result in the issuance of non-compliance certification from the PESO, and subsequently, non-renewal of business permits by the Licensing Services Section of the Office of the City Mayor. The SP, however, makes sure to take a more business-friendly approach in the implementation of the ordinance as it requires the PESO to personally reach out to the companies and assist them in the registration and job posting process.

Authored by City Councilor Geraldine Collado, the ordinance intends to ease the burden of jobseekers spending time and money knocking on doors of companies just to check out for vacancies. She said that she worked closely with PESO Manager Allan Freno in the formulation of the ordinance with the aim of fast-tracking the jobseekers’ search for vacancies and in the same manner, providing the employers with wider access to a pool of talents. “I’m glad that our PESO initiated the establishment of the job portal that serves as a one-stop shop where job seekers and employers meet online”, Councilor Collado said. “This ordinance will try to maximize the potential of this online recruitment platform”. Established in 2023, PESO Jobs PH came into existence in response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. At the height of the health crisis, jobseekers found it hard to find work while companies had trouble finding workers due to community quarantine restrictions. Digitalizing its employment facilitation efforts was the PESO’s answer to the challenges brought by the pandemic. PESO Jobs PH can be accessed through pesojobs.ph website and Facebook Page. It has also a mobile application that can be downloaded from Google Play using Android devices. (ASF, LGU PESO)
